Spring Cleaning & Maintenance Tips for the High-End Home

It’s that time of year again! While you may not be the one handling all of the cleaning and maintenance of your high-end home, it may help to have a list of things to attend to, so you can make sure they all get accomplished.

Planning Your Strategy

You want to make sure yourbeautiful high-end home looks its best and is ready to receive your guests for the spring and summer events you will be hosting. More importantly, you want your home to look its best, not only because it is a reflection of you, but because if you have spent the time and money to acquire such a beautiful home, you certainly deserve for it to be as well maintained and comfortable as possible.

In order to get everything accomplished, you need to create a strategy that will cover all the bases, both inside and outside of your high-end home. Inside, you may want to go room-by–room, taking inventory of what needs to be done.Alternatively, you may want to list jobs that will need to be done in every room first, such as window washing, and make a separate room-by-room list. Here are some ideas:.

All Rooms

  • Wash windows
  • Get carpets cleaned
  • Polish floors
  • Wax wood floors
  • Clean chandeliers
  • Dust ceiling fan blades
  • Dust crown molding

Bathroom

  • Clean out cabinets
  • Clean shower doors
  • De-lime tiles
  • Clean blinds

You get the idea. While this list may have items that seem obvious, they can easily be forgotten and, over time, look atrocious – forget to clean the crown molding, and by mid-summer you’ll have cobwebs making your room look like a set from the Addams Family movie. That’s not a look you want!

Outdoor Strategy for Your High-End Home

Many homeowners of high-end homes have gardeners and maintenance people keeping the landscaping looking perfect. Now would be a good time for you to do an inspection of your grounds to see if there are changes you need to make or issues that need to be addressed. Again, making a list of those things you want to see changed will keep them from being forgotten later. Some things to consider:

  • Hedges needing to be cut back
  • Trees needing to be trimmed or taken down
  • Lawn edging
  • Replacing flagstones
  • Cleaning gutters and downspouts
  • Cleaning out window wells
  • Re-caulking windows and cracks on the exterior of the home
  • Painting – how does the siding and trim look?

Once you make an assessment yourself, you may want to go through your findings with the people who take care of the grounds. They may have additional input on work that would be beneficial. For some jobs, you will want to get bids from contractors. Your time is precious and, in many instances, it works out better in time and money saved to hire professionals rather than to do it yourself.

There are also other things you should consider putting on your list, such as changing the batteries in the smoke alarms. Unless you have a set time for doing so, this may be a good time to attend to that. Don’t wait for a storm or flood to find out the condition of your sump pump; get it checked now. When was the last time the dryer vents were cleaned out?

Your high-end home is essentially your castle, and you want to make sure you are living in a well-maintained realm! Skipping over little fixes could lead to bigger problems later. Planning your strategy and checking to see that all your bases are covered will keep your castle healthy and looking beautiful for years to come.
